Narcotics smugglers, terrorists, criminal gang members, murderers, rapists,
burglars, child molesters, and other criminals that are involved in
committing or conspiring to commit major crimes against the American
public must use the highways of our nation to get from point A to point
B in order to carry out their criminal acts and/or to flee after
committing the crime.
When stopped, most seasoned criminals realize that the
common police officer will normally focus his/her attention on the
traffic violation while overlooking anomalies that are present during
the stop. These criminals also hope that the Officer will conduct a
minimal, if any, investigation into their suspected criminal activity, to
include a minimal search of the vehicle.
Unlike the common thief or burglar, the narcotics smuggler
or terrorist will put forth great effort to blend in with other
motorist and to conceal their product, investment, tools of destruction
and/or any other item that may be related to their trade within the
vehicle that they are using in the event that they are compromised by
law enforcement.
Not only must these criminals and terrorist use the major
highways and interstates to facilitate their crimes, they must exit the
highways into the neighborhoods and inner streets of your city in order
to eat, refuel, take restroom breaks…etc.
No matter whether you're a road officer working the
highway, or a patrol officer working the inner city, you need to be
trained in the recognition of major criminals and terrorist that you
may come in contact with, so that you can intercept their cargo and/or
prevent another possible deadly attack on your neighbors and the
American public.
Threat Level 5 believes that it if we are going to teach a
student on how to conduct an effective and successful interdiction
stop, then we must also provide the Officer with vital information,
techniques, and suggestions on how to conduct an interdiction/traffic
stop while maintaining, utilizing, and effecting good Officer safety
habits. Therefore, an Officer safety segment is provided in our basic
and advanced classes.
